Basic Life Support
The Health and Safety Institute (HSI) offers nationally recognized training programs for First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS), designed to meet workplace safety requirements and prepare individuals for medical emergencies. HSI (formerly known as ASHI) is a major provider of emergency care training, with courses suitable for everyone from general employees to healthcare professionals.
First Aid Training
HSI’s First Aid courses focus on preparing individuals to respond to sudden injuries and illnesses in workplace, community, or home settings.
- Target Audience: Teachers, security personnel, office staff, volunteers, and general employees.
- Key Skills: Bandaging, wound care, treating burns and fractures, managing shock, and responding to sudden illnesses.
- Certification: Typically valid for two years and accepted by OSHA and other regulatory bodies
Delivery Methods:
- In-Classroom: Instructor-led with hands-on practice.
- Blended Learning: Online cognitive portion followed by an in-person skills session.
- Remote Skills Verification (RSV): Complete the online portion and verify skills via live video with an instructor
Basic Life Support (BLS) Training
The BLS program is a more advanced course specifically designed for healthcare providers and public safety professionals (e.g., nurses, doctors, EMTs, firefighters).
- Target Audience: Healthcare professionals, public safety personnel, and students in healthcare training programs
- Key Skills: High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants; AED use; relief of choking; and effective team dynamics during resuscitation efforts
- Standards: The curriculum aligns with the latest 2020 American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines and recommendations from the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR)
- Certification: Valid for two years and often provides Continuing Education (CE) credits for EMS professionals
